Global South Interest Group Event Recording

Thank you to all who were able to attend the Global South Interest Group’s inaugural event, Development Theory and Social Theory from/in the Global South. The event, which was moderated by Dr. Milena Arancibia, Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS), Columbia University, discussed how development has been imagined as different normative goals, strategies, and historical experiences across the Global South. Situating development within broader social theory, Dr. Patrick Bond (University of Johannesburg, South Africa), Dr. José Maurício Domingues (Rio de Janeiro State University, Brazil), and Dr. Aditya Nigam (Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, India) discussed modernity and its relation to socialist, dependency, postcolonial, and critical theories. For those who were unable to attend the event or who wish to view it again, we have attached a video recording below, as well as a transcript. Please note that the transcript only covers the first 90 minutes of the event.
