April 11: Development Theory and Social Theory from/in the Global South

Join us via Zoom on Thursday, April 11 from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. EST for the inaugural event of the Global South Interest Group (GSIG), which seeks to discuss how development has been imagined as different normative goals, strategies, and historical experiences across the Global South. Situating development within broader social theory, senior scholars in Brazil, India, and South Africa will discuss modernity and its relation to socialist, dependency, postcolonial, and critical theories. Each scholar will reflect on their scholarly work, followed by a discussion with the audience (Q&A session).

This event will be moderated by Dr. Milena Arancibia, Visiting Scholar at the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS), Columbia University.

To join, please register here by 8:00 A.M. EST on April 11.
